Why teeth whitening?

Many people choose to have teeth whitening to help improve their appearance

  • A whiter, brighter smile
  • An easy and painless procedure
  • Dentists consider whitening the safest cosmetic dental procedure available

What is the cause of discolouration?

  • Age
  • Food & drinks
  • Medication
  • Smoking

As a person ages the adult teeth often become darker due to changes in the mineral structure of the tooth, as the enamel becomes less porous. Teeth can also become stained due to high food coloration and drinks such as red wine, tea and coffee. Smoking and medications such as Tetracycline also contribute to tooth staining.

How long will it last?

Once your teeth have been whitened your dentist will go through some information/instructions to help you keep your teeth looking their best.

You will have some whitening trays made which you will be able to take home with you and top up your white smile when needed. Zoom is a professional formula and designed for long lasting results.

At Home Teeth Whitening

We offer Day white & Night white gels for teeth whitening at home for our patients in Blackburn.

The Home tray whitening system is ideal for patients who are unable to keep their mouth open for long periods of time.

Night white is great for patients who don’t mind sleeping with the whitening trays in place.

Day white is ideal for those who are uncomfortable with over night tray wear.

How long will this take?

The total treatment can usually be done within three to four weeks. First, you will need two or three visits to the dentist. Your dentist will need to make a mouthguard and will take impressions for this at the first appointment. Once your dentist has started the treatment, you will need to continue the treatment at home. This means regularly applying the whitening product over one to two weeks, for 30 minutes to one hour at a time.

What are the side effects?

Some people may find that their teeth become sensitive to cold during or after the treatment. Others report discomfort in the gums, a sore throat or white patches on the gum line. These symptoms are usually temporary and should disappear within a few days of the treatment finishing.
