We are primary dental care providers for patients of all ages offering General Dentistry.
General Dentistry includes simple checkups and routine examinations, access to a hygienist for a scale and polish and any fillings, extractions or root canal procedures that you may need to have. General dentistry also involves the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a variety of conditions and diseases affecting the teeth, gums and maxillofacial (jaw & face) region of the body.

General Dentistry includes:
Examinations | Your examination will usually last for approximately 15 minutes depending on the level of your oral health. Routine examinations at Lancashire Dental will probably lead to less time being spent in the dentist chair in the long run! |
Hygienist | You will usually visit the hygienist to have a scale and polish where the teeth and gums will be thoroughly cleaned and any infection present will be cleared. Regular scale and polish treatment conducted by your hygienist reduces the build up of plaque, reducing the risk of tooth decay… as well as leaving your mouth squeaky clean. You can also ask your hygienist for any help or advice regarding your oral health and what you could be doing at home to improve it further. |
Fissure | Fissure seals are used predominantly for the upkeep and management of children’s oral health whereby the fissures (grooves) on the surface of the back teeth are painted with a sealant to prevent decay. This is the area of the tooth that is most prone to tooth decay. Fissure seals are usually applied at the age when the permanent back teeth erupt. Contact your dentist if you would like more information. |
Fillings | Your dentist will only fill a tooth if decay is present that cannot be otherwise removed. The decay / infection will be removed and will be replaced with the filling material. Fillings help prevent tooth loss and further decay into the canals and nerves of the tooth. |
Root Canal | Root canal treatment (RCT) will be conducted when infection becomes present in the centre of a tooth (the root canal system). RCT is also known as Endodontics and occurs when the nerve inside the tooth has died, if left untreated this could evolve into an abscess and cause swelling in the jaw and face. Tell tale signs of a dying tooth include sensitivity to hot foods and drink as opposed to the much more common sensitivity to cold foods and drink. Extractions | You may require an extraction is your tooth is badly decayed and beyond the point of root canal treatment due to the infection being too bad. Similarly an extraction may be required if root canal treatment has been unsuccessful and the dentist could not clean the canals thoroughly enough. Sometimes teeth may erupt in unusual places and cause obstruction in the mouth and require extraction. |
